Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What experience do I need to take a class?

A: Classes that have prerequisites will have them listed in the course description. Our Pistol 0 is designed for people with little to no experience with firearms and is highly recommended for beginners. Although there are no listed prerequisites, our level 1 classes are designed for students that have at least a basic understanding of firearm safety and marksmanship.

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: Class equipment lists can be found in each course description.

Q: How do I request a refund? What is NPD's refund policy?

A: Signing up for a class is a commitment to train on the class date(s). A student may request a refund of their tuition via email at northernpanhandledefense@gmail.com Refunds will be charged a 50% cancellation fee up to 30 days before the class date. Requests for credit transfers to another class/date will be considered at Northern Panhandle Defense's discretion. Inside of 30 days there will be no refund and no transfers. No refund or transfer of tuition will be offered to students who fail to attend class, are asked to leave the class by the instructor, or decide to leave before the conclusion of the class. Exceptions will only be made for the most extenuating of circumstances.

In the event that Northern Panhandle Defense must cancel a class, a full refund or credit towards another class will be given to students according to their desire.

Q: Are rental firearms available for training?

A: It is much preferred that students bring their own guns to use for class (we highly recommend using the gun you plan to carry every day). However, if this is not possible, you may contact us about the possibility of using a loaner. Only a few are available and they will be loaned on a first-come-first-served basis. Students must still bring their own ammunition (only factory ammunition allowed).

Q: Can I used reloaded ammunition in the class?

A: No! Only factory ammunition will be allowed in class. Reloaded ammunition can be the cause of many issues that can take up valuable class time to address. You are already investing your time and money for the class; don't cheap out on the ammo.

It also poses a much higher risk to damage the firearm, the shooter, and/or other students should something go wrong. This is a liability issue. If a student is found to be using reloaded ammunition, they will be asked to leave without a refund.

Q: What kind of physical condition should I be in to take a class?

A: The majority of our drills aren't physically demanding. If a student has difficulty with a particular drill, they may try a modified version or abstain altogether.

Q: Can I train if I am physically impaired?

A: Absolutely! Modified instruction is available as needed. Please contact us with specifics and we will gladly work with you.

Q: Is there an age restriction to train?

A: There is no official age restriction and we are happy to teach the next generation. However, there are several considerations in regards to students under the age of 18.

*Any student under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

    * It is the parent's/guardian's responsibility to determine if an adolescent's physical and mental ability is suitable. Northern Panhandle Defense reserves the right to deny training due to irresponsibility and/or unsafe conduct. Standard refund policy applies.

*Parents/guardians may find the content and language used in the classes to be mature for adolescents. These classes are about life and death struggle. The subject matter is thus of an intense nature. Content will be presented in the same way regardless of the presence of youth.

    * Please contact us with any questions or concerns in these regards.

Q: Can I train in my tactical gear?

A: Yes, however, we prefer that people train like they fight. We recommend that students use the gear that they plan to carry regularly or, at the very least, split time between their EDC gear and their tactical rig. This is to ensure students get the most out of our training.

If you are a police officer and want to train in your duty gear, you are encouraged to do so. However, we similarly encourage you to run part of the class in your off-duty gear as well. Alternatively, feel free to take the class twice - once each way!
